You know, it wasn’t really that long ago that we covered Dave Evans’ release of Heartbreak Hotel, and yet it’s rocking just as hard across the world as the legendary Elvis original! AC/DC played a cover of the track when Dave was still with them, and the public adored it. However, due to an unfortunate set of circumstances, the cover was never released on any album, EP or single – it was only ever played live.
Until now.
That’s right: even though AC/DC never recorded the much-requested hit, Dave listened to the fan’s pleas, and is here to present it to you in the modern era!
This release of Heartbreak Hotel is designed to mimic the exact style of AC/DC when they originally played the cover live, and features Metallica’s Flemming Rasmussen as producer, bringing back the magic of 70s rock in a big way! So big that it’s seeing huge radio success! Let’s take a look.
Dave’s cover of Heartbreak Hotel didn’t release very long ago and yet it’s already the most popular track in his entire catalogue as far as radio attention is concerned! 64 radio stations across 25 countries downloaded it , and 45 of those stations decided to give it a play on their airwaves! The jury is still out on how many estimated plays it got, but 45 stations across 25 countries in just one month, as well as the fact that this is a very new track that’s already getting a spotlight like this… well it speaks for itself. These figures come to us from our friends over at Syndicast. We wanna give special thanks to Syndicast for hosting this track in a convenient manner for the masses to engage with, and of course to every single one of the radio stations who decided to help bring back the magic of the golden age of rock! But no matter what era of rock n roll you’re a fan of, whether it’s old school Elvis, classic AC/DC, or some of the new stuff that artists like Dave are making to this day with hits such as Guitarman, Heartbreak Hotel is a love letter to how AC/DC got the ball rolling on its popularity, faithful to that vintage sound while still carrying that crisp modern production quality.
As for where Dave is being appreciated the most out of those 25 countries, Heartbreak Hotel is most popular in the United Kingdom, as well as Spain, which makes sense given for Dave: he’s been going HAM in LATAM!
Between the Rockland stuff we’ve previously covered and all the work he’s done with our Latin American team for interviews, he’s been absolutely on fire and making the most of every single moment of his adventures over there! If there’s one thing that’s certain – 2022 has been an incredible year for Dave Evans, and we think the fans will agree!
And then there’s 2023! Dave isn’t the kind of guy to sit still for long, so if you’re as keen for more of him as we are, stay tuned… it’s just a few weeks away!
But, as hype as Dave’s plans for the near future are set to be, we still have a big soft spot for our personal favourite work of Dave’s, that being Sinner, so we’re keen to recommend that as ever. Who knows – maybe his shows are gonna keep getting better to the point that they eclipse all else in the rock world! We’ll just have to eagerly wait and see… Maybe the Sinner shirt in our wardrobe will have even more company soon! We got high hopes!
We hope that if you didn’t know Dave Evans and his rockin’ legacy before, this will help you get in touch with your long wild hair and 80s attitude once again – some merch could help with that! Show off your style and make the world remember what a real rocker looks like. Or maybe you can tune into the radio – our friends at Syndicast tell us that you might get some awesome rock classics from the man himself if you turn that dial! And networks like Apple Music direct listeners to Dave Evans’ guitar man when they’re playing a playlist of rock classics, with the likes of Black Sabbath, Metallica, Led Zeppelin and of course AC/DC – a well deserved categorisation, because we can sure see the similarities in quality and genre! It’s come with hard work from Dave, and indeed, he is the hardest working man in rock, available at all great music stores across the world.
